Wood County firefighter suffers 'health issues' while being treated for cuts

WOOD COUNTY (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - A firefighter has been flown to a Tyler hospital after being severely injured on the scene of a house fire today.

Wood County Fire Marshal Randy Selman confirmed information the Tyler Morning Telegraph received that a firefighter in Wood County was injured during a blaze at Holly Lake.

"I'm still trying to find out all of the details, but the firefighter either fell and hit his head or something fell on him, striking him in the head," he said.

Selman said the fire had three departments fighting the blaze, but he was unsure at the time if the injured firefighter was from Holly Lake, Hawkins or Perryville department.

"We will know something a little later, but right now we still have crews on the scene," he said.

A firefighter at Holly Lake said the three departments are still currently on the scene.

East Texas Medical Center spokesperson Rebecca Berkley confirmed the firefighter was flown to ETMC and was being assessed.

The Tyler Paper will continue following this developing story and will post the latest developments as they become available.
