Wright to resign council seat; taking post with Sen. Ted Cruz

TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Jason Wright is resigning his seat on the Tyler City Council.

He announced today that he is leaving to become the East Texas Regional Director for Ted Cruz, the new United States senator from Texas.

Joining us is Danny Mogle from our news partners at the Tyler paper.

Danny you were able to visit with Mr. Wright today.?

I did. He says he has been honored to serve on the council and he is very excited about this opportunity.

He was approached about a month a go to take the position.

He says  jumped at the offer because he believes in the conservative, reduce-the-spending approach to government that Ted Cruz represents.

What are his big challenges in the days ahead?

Mr. Wright says he will be setting up office here in Tyler and that he has already started somewhat of a crash course of learning how things get done in Washington and how Senator Cruz plans to run his office.

What will happen to his seat on the council?

He will officially resign during the city council meeting on Wednesday. The seat will remain vacant until city elections are held in May. Wright represented District 6 which is southern Tyler.

A business owner named John Nix has announced to us he is running for Jason Wright's old seat.
