Destiny Brooks Prepares For Final Game

TYLER, Texas - After being selected to this All Star game, Gilmer's Destiny Brooks is ready to showcase the talent of the area.

"For me to be from East Texas and to represent the 903, I've always wanted little East Texas to get the recognition that it gets because we have some really talented athletes," says Brooks.

This year Brooks and the Lady Buckeyes went 32-4, and fell just shy of the state finals. Brooks says she wouldn't be in this All-Star game if it wasn't for her team.

"I can't thank the girls enough, my teammates putting in all the hard work we had a couple of seniors last year, and they left and we were missing key components and we got some girls in, they stepped up, and we just really bought into Coach Simpson's program," explains Brooks.

Despite being an incredible shooter, Destiny has only received a couple of college offers to schools like Dartmouth and Appalachian State. While her height at 5'5' might scare schools away, she makes up for her stature with her dominating play on the court.

"I was always taught that it was heart over height, so no matter how tall you are. I feel like nobody is going to out work me, you're not going to out shoot me, and you're not going to play defense around me, and you're not going to get around me. I bring my high IQ and my passing ability and shooting I feel like it all makes up for my height," says Brooks.

For Destiny sharing the court with the top girls basketball players in East Texas is gratifying.

"Surrounded by these great athletes these girls we put in so much hard work so much dedication into the game, and to be recognized for it is truly a blessing and we're going to have fun this weekend," replied Brooks.
