Former SFA Quarterback Trying To Earn A Spot In The NFL

Conque Trying To Earn A Spot With Texans

NACOGDOCHES - For the last three years, Stephen F. Austin quarterback Zach Conque terrorized opponents in the Southland Conference. Now he’s hoping to bring that same dominance to the Houston Texans.

After going undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft, Conque agreed to a free agent contract with the Texans. He got his first taste of NFL action during the rookie mini camp back in May, and it was an adjustment for him. Conque stated, “Rookie mini-camp was really an eye-opening experience for me.”

During his NFL pro day, Conque decided to make the switch from quarterback to tight end, hoping that it would give him more opportunities to be looked at by NFL teams. According to Conque, the transition was fairly easy because of everything he learned at the quarterback position. “When the coach is talking about certain coverages, or when it comes to certain schematics,” Conque explained, “I feel like I can excel in that area and it helps me tremendously when it comes to converting from a quarterback to a tight end.”

With the Texans camp kicking off this week, Conque realizes he has a long way to go to make the 53-man roster. However, he knows that anything is possible through hard work and determination. “If you’re good enough and you keep working your tail off, they’re going to find you no matter what.”
