TYLER - Cliff Drysdale Management Company helped design and create the new Tyler Athletic and Swim Club facility. So it only made sense to have the Tennis Hall of Famer at the grand opening.
Drysdale was in Tyler for the official ribbon-cutting. He visited with the members for awhile, then helped with a tennis clinic.
We had a chance to speak with Drysdale for a little while and we talked about everything from the state of American tennis (he says it's doing just fine) to his favorite player to play against ("I don't have too many that were fun to play against because I used to get beat up too much.")
Most importantly, Drysdale says clubs like these are critical to keeping kids and teenagers interested in the sport.
He says, "If you don't have the facilities there's no way to grow it."
And when asked how proud he is to have his name on this new facility, Drysdale says, "I'm much more proud of the facilities than my name on it because I was a good player, I wasn't a great player, and it's what we're creating rather than who's creating it, I think, that to me, it means the most."
