TYLER - The Bishop Gorman football team that will take the field in 2017 won't look much like the team that took the field in 2016.
But the Crusaders still think the results will be the same...a trip to the playoffs.
Gorman does bring back one of the top quarterbacks in the state. Jake Smith put up some ridiculous numbers during his sophomore year, and with that year of experience under his belt, he'll be counted on to lead the Crusaders again.
However, other than Smith, this team will look quite a bit different this year. The Crusaders top receiver (Judah Bell) and running back (Ethan Milton) have both graduated, as have several other key players.
Most notably, the man leading the team will be different. After a very successful tenure at Bishop Gorman, Coby Gipson took a job at Howard Payne University. Texas high school football veteran Randy McFarlin takes over on the sidelines, and that change could be a good thing for this team.
Coach McFarlin says, "Change is good, we do things differently, a little bit, and change is good. You get a little bit stale when you do the same thing over and over. They are very excited about the possible outcome of this season."
