Math Supplemental Resource for East Texas Teachers - KYTX CBS 19 Tyler Longview News Weather Sports

Historically, schools in Texas perform above average on TAKS Reading, but bellow average on TAKS Math. The Sylvan Learning Center is offering a math teaching aid for east Texas schools. 

"Math is the one area that schools struggle with, especially advanced math: algebra and geometry, which is what this program covers," said Bill Martin, director of Tyler's Sylvan Learning Center.

Schoolmathprep.com is an online learning tool with an extensive database of advance math equations.

"There is a video and a graphic representation of the problem. It goes through step-by-step with the teacher on a white board showing how to work the problem," said martin.

Bill Martin is the director of Sylvan Learning Center in Tyler. He says schoolmathprep.com boasts a database of more than 700 math textbooks. So teachers can access their specific book.

"It can be a teaching tool. It can be a homework support tool for the students during study halls,"said Martin.

In addition to solving individual math problems, the site has a self-test feature that allows students to track their progress throughout the year.

Schoolmathprep.com is a free service offered by Sylvan Learning Center. Martin says it's their way of giving back to East Texas schools and raising math scores.

This support tool is now available to any school in East Texas. If your child's school is not yet participating, and you'd like them to, Martin says to speak to your school and have them contact the Sylvan Learning Center.
