Texas Board of Education Decides Classroom Curriculum for Next Decade

A heated debate down in Austin, as the Texas Education Agency is testing the classroom curriculum your children will learn for the next ten years.

Two main issues are on deck: religion and which historical figures make it into the books.

Early drafts have recommended that historical figures like Thurgood Marshall and Cesar Chavez were not good citizens. But many argue their impact made a difference in our world.

Moms like Kathy Miller just want the best education possible.

"There's too much politics and not enough kids; there's too much ideology and not enough education," Miller said.

At today's meeting, experts including college professers addressed the board.

There will be a series on four meetings on the issues so there will be many more drafts to come before the final vote on the curriculum in March.  Changes can be made up until the final vote happens.
