TYLER (KYTX) - Students from Tyler's Bonner Elementary are already thinking about their future.

And thinking about what they want to be when they grow up. CBS 19's Jennifer Heathcock says this is the first time teachers have used the visions and dreams program, and they're hoping the fifth graders will start looking at colleges and careers.

"This is the skeleton of a cat."

These are science classes at UT-Tyler and Tyler Junior College for seventy 5th grade students.

"I learned baby reptiles, when born, their mom leaves them and they know how to do everything themselves."

Students like Ricky Gomez from Bonner Elementary got hands-on experience and a chance to explore different careers through the Visions and Dreams Program.

"I'm thinking about learning about animals because I want to learn how to stop extinction from happening," said Gomez.

"I want to be a teacher all around the world," said Anastasia Miller.

They took pictures to see the school at all angles.

"See, the unique architecture of the campuses at the same time increase their knowledge about what opportunity awaits them," said Bonner teacher George Brigman.

The opportunity for a higher education, as well as what comes next. "These kids can do really well and want them to think, to maximize their future," said Brigman.

Maximizing that future by providing options early.

"[It's] great experience because it helped me learn what I want to be in my older days. I need to learn a little bit more."

The 'Vision and Dreams' program was funded by a grant through the Tyler ISD Foundation.
