LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Prom season is right around the corner, and Pine Tree ISD is sending a strong message on the dangers of drinking and driving. CBS 19's ShaVonne Herndon reports on a program designed to shock students straight.

Mix alcohol with teenagers and cars, and the potential is this - a mother, sobbing, as her son's lifeless body is loaded into a hearse. "It was hard for me hearing my mom yell. It was just really real to me," said Trent Montgomery.

Montgomery is one of several Pine Tree High School students who participated in the Shattered Dreams program."I was ejected from the car and I was pinned under the back of the car and I was alive, until they lifted the car off me and they pulled me out," said Montgomery.

It's a realistic, mock scenario to get students to think twice about drinking and driving.

"I know I was laying there, my mom walked up on the scene I could hear her talking to the cops and it was really hard, because I know how hard that would be for her," said Jennifer Little.

Something Trent's parents can attest to, as well.

"It's been a very emotional day, a very emotional past few weeks. The whole experience has been, but we do feel like its for a good cause," said Paula Montgomery.

"If our ordeal what we went through today can help just one person, it's worth it. You know there's a lot of teenagers that think they're indestructible," said Garland Montgomery.

The Shattered Dreams program will continue Friday at Pine Tree, with a mock memorial service for the people who 'lost their lives' in today's staged wreck.
