LINDALE (KYTX) - Students at Lindale's Early Childhood Development Center get a lesson in being positive - with father-figures. Teachers say the small program will build a large return for the students later in life.
Among dozens of small hammers at work, you can find students at Lindale's Early Childhood Center piecing together relationships with their fathers.
"She's been talking about this for three weeks," said Josh Watson. "She reminded me last night and reminded me this morning."
Watson came to 'Daddy Drop Off' to work with his 5 year old daughter, Emily, and to teach her about positivity.
"By being a positive role model in their lives, it helps them feel good about themselves," said teacher Roxie Miles.
"You're the one they learn from. If you're going to be around, they spend 8 hours a day at school, you can come here with them," said Daniel Wilson.
Wilson took a little time off to teach Kiley that there's nothing too hard to work through.
"Doesn't have to be too bad, it can always be worked through. You can always have fun, even getting hit with hammers," laughed Wilson.
The day even gave some kids without a father the chance to have one for the day.
"Ok, Jacobi, we've got some more, buddy..."
They're hammering out small projects, in order to make adjustments later in life.
"Every little bit helps with kids...I'd come back, they didn't scare me off," said Watson.
The 'Daddy Drop Off' event is held every year at Lindale's Early Childhood Development Center, and other Headstart programs across East Texas.
