They are the best of the best, the cream of the crop, and tonight top notch Tyler ISD teachers were recognized.

The theme of this year's Teacher of the Year banquet was "Olympians of Teaching."

Each Tyler ISD school was represented by a campus nominee.

Organizers of the banquet say it's crucial to recognize the teachers who go above and beyond to educate the future generation.

Elementary Teacher of the year:

Laurie Wells, Reading Intervention teacher at Dixie Elementary

Secondary Teacher of the year

Toby Wahl, Sixth grade Social Studies teacher at Dogan Middle School
