Chapel Hill ISD will head into the fall with a new superintendent. Monday night, the school board approved Dr. Donni Cook as the lone finalist for that position.
40 candidates applied for the superintendent position.
Dr. Cook is well-connected to the Chapel Hill community. Not only did she grow up there and go through Chapel Hill schools from first grade through high school, she's been a middle school teacher there and had also worked as a curriculum specialist.
She's also served as assistant superintendent for 10 years, so she's really familiar with the district and the town.
She said she really just wants to continue building on the strides they've made over the past 10 years or so.
In the mid 90s, Chapel Hill ISD had three schools that were rated "poor" by state academic standards. Today, there's not one of the district's six schools that is considered poor, and actually they've got three schools that are considered "recognized."
Dr. Cook also said she wants to continue seeing the district expand its fine arts programs and athletics, which have made some major headway in the past decade.
