Chapel Hill High School twins finish at the top

CHAPEL HILL (KYTX) - They're this year's valedictorian and salutatorian at Chapel Hill High School. They have grade point averages separated by less than one-thousandth of a point. And, they're twins. CBS 19's Amanda Roberson introduces the Mott twins.

"I'm seven minutes older than her, but she got me on the grade point average," explained Casey Mott. He and his twin sister Kelli are preparing for their valedictorian and salutatorian graduation speeches. "I've only taken some heat from my guy friends, 'How can you let your little sister beat you?', but I'm very proud of her."

"There's some rivalry," Kelli agreed. "But it's friendly competition, you know. We push each other to do better, we help each other do better, so, I mean, it's all in good fun."

Kelli admitted her brother's better with numbers, but Casey conceded his sister is better with words. It's a combination that has made them perfect study buddies.

"When we had to carry our books home, we'd split up the weight so we didn't have to carry the same books home," Kelli said. "And we can always remind each other of due dates or projects or help each other out if one of us is struggling in one area."

"It's really a bonus though because they're good kids," added their father. "So anything else has been nice."

As you might imagine, the twin's parents, Benny and Patricia Mott are proud of their only children. Mom said when they were born, she prayed they'd be on equal footing growing up.  "Just a couple months ago I thought, 'Wow, look how God has honored that request'," Patricia explained. "Because they are equal and they've accomplished so much with the blessings and the talents that they've been given. They've worked hard to use that and I'm proud of them."

Kelli and Casey walk the graduation stage Friday at UT Tyler and they're both headed to Harding Christian University, in Arkansas, this coming fall.
