The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees met Monday night to discuss the possible purchase of property for a future school and to discuss the superintendent's contract.

TISD Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid said the land is south of Loop 323 and generally in the south, southwest portion of the city. He declined to name the exact property because the district is still in negotiations. But the district is looking at this area because it where the city has seen growth. This piece of property could serve as a home for an elementary or middle school but not a high school. It is not large enough for a high school.

Dr. Reid told the board that officials have negotiated a price for the property and likely will bring that to the board for approval next Thursday. It would be paid for with funds leftover from the 2008 bond. Those monies can only be used for capital expenditures and not for salaries or operating expenditures. Although the board evaluated Dr. Randy Reid tonight, trustees decided to move the superintendent's annual evaluation to January so it can have all the district's test scores and more information by which to evaluate him.

They will deal with his contract and any salary increases at the January board meeting. They decide, though, to go ahead and award him a $6,500 bonus for accomplishing several of the performance goals they set for him last year.

The goals they set were in the areas of the 2008 bond projects, strategic planning for the district and academic performance.
