Charter schools could get more money

Posted: Updated:

(USA TODAY) - The Texas State Board of Education has adopted a plan to dedicate millions of dollars of public school endowment dollars to finance charter school facilities.

The proposal, which is contingent on a legal opinion from the state attorney general or action by the legislature, is to invest $100 million of the $23 billion permanent school fund into developing and leasing charter schools.

Charter schools receive public funds, but are privately managed and aren't subject to numerous state requirements, such as maximum class sizes.
