Authorities are waiting for autopsy results after finding a man's body along a Whitehouse-area road.

Smith County Sheriff's Lt. Tony Dana said 41-year-old Dwight Wayne Pawul was transported to East Texas Medical Center about 7 a.m. Saturday after he was found lying face down in a ditch near Farm-to-Market Road 756 and County Road 129.

Dana said his department received a welfare concern call about 1 a.m. Saturday that the subject possibly took some unknown pills and may have been drinking alcohol at a home on County Road 2194.

"We sent a deputy and Whitehouse Police Department sent an officer to the location, but we did not find the individual and nothing appeared out of the ordinary," he said.

After the deputy and officer left the home, friends continued looking for Pawul.

Family friend Amanda Rawls said her husband and others searched for Pawul all night, but were unable to find him.

Dana said about 7 a.m. his office received another call near Pawul's home in reference to a man lying in a ditch.
