We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

Although the campaign officially ended Friday, donations still are coming in for the Shine Your Light campaign. A final tally is expected Wednesday.

As of the Dec. 31 deadline, the total raised from the two-week campaign stood at $107,821, with $66,821 contributed by readers and $41,000 contributed by matching partners.
"This is one of the most generous communities, and we see this pattern repeated over and over," said Nelson Clyde, publisher of the

Tyler Morning Telegraph. "The secret in dealing with generous people is if you throw them a lob, they'll hit it out of the park. Our readers and this community have hit it out of the park for the last two years and have blessed an untold number of lives."

Donations will be divided evenly among five nonprofits: the East Texas Crisis Center, the East Texas Food Bank, Meals On Wheels, People Attempting to Help and The Salvation Army.

Matching partners were the

Tyler Morning Telegraph, Mayor Barbara and Billy Bass, the Fourth Partner Foundation, Niblack Charitable Fund, Terry and Dennis Darryl, Citizen's First Bank and Harold and Rosemary Beaird.

Last year's charity fundraising campaign raised more than $114,000 that was evenly divided between five East Texas nonprofits: St. Paul's Children's Foundation, Bethesda Health Clinic, Regional East Texas Food Bank, Meals On Wheels and The King's Storehouse.
