TYLER (KYTX) – Kacy and her brother Deris are very bonded and never far apart. "Kacy has acted like a mother to Deris and still tends to. So it's a definite plus they stay together," explains Denise Harned, their case worker with Child Protective Services.
Beaming as she talks about her little brother Kacy says, "He's a great boy! I love him to death. Like I would not trade him for anything in the world. He's like basically my best friend!"
Big sister Kacy is 12-years-old and a good student in the 7th-grade. "I want to be a doctor." She also makes friends easily and is very active. "I like to be involved in activities like volleyball, basketball, track, band and choir. I play the trumpet."
9-year-old Deris is also friendly. He's doing well in the 3rd-grade. "I [am on] A/B honor roll at school and I'm good at school. Math is my favorite."
Like his sister, he too enjoys sports. "Play outside, play soccer, play baseball and football."
Both children are easy to get along with, help out around the house and have no discipline problems.
While foster care has actually given these siblings a sense of stability for the first time in their young lives, it's been tough accepting the termination of their parents rights. Kacy says, "It's really hard right now because I really want to be with my mom but I know that can't happen."
With so much uncertainty ahead, this brother and sister hold onto their faith. "They are both very active in their church and wish to stay active in church activities as well as their youth group," says Harned.
While Kacy and Deris are anxious about starting over, they're eager for a more normal life. "A loving family that cares about us," says Deris.
Harned adds, "I just think they are great kids and any family would be lucky to have them."
