Chris Tomlin honored in Grand Saline

Posted: Updated:

GRAND SALINE (KYTX) - He's a multi-award winning music artist, songwriter and worship leader.

Now Chris Tomlin can say he's even got a street named after him in his home town.

An event 5 months in the making, brought this Christian music superstar home.

To get the city of Grand Saline in step, it took a little work, and maybe a connections from above.

"We never thought Chris would be here," says organizer Dan Zajac.

Zajac helped organize "Chris Tomlin Day" for the contemporary Christian music artist and hometown celebrity.

"What he does is pretty incredible, because he has such a strong ministry day in and day out," says Zajac.

"Growing up here really kept my feet on the ground amidst success. Really lets you know where you are from," says Chris Tomlin.

From the parade, to proclamation, even new street signs bearing his name, took place with him on stage.

"There was something in me, even as a young child, that I had a heart for God. I think God put that in me," says Tomlin.

You can find posters and banners all over town for Chris. People showing their love and respect for what he's done in his music.

A kid, from these streets..

"They let me play and sing, I was terrible. They just believed in me," says Tomlin.

Found his voice, with his hometown by his side.

"I feel like I've really lived a dream from this small, little town," says Tomlin.

A dream that brought him closer to people around the world, and led him right back home.

Tomlin says he's got a baby on the way, so things are changing fast in his life.

But he doesn't think that will change his work in music.
