TYLER (KYTX) - Just in time to hit the roads this summer, dozens of East Texas children got bicycle ready Saturday with Tyler Police officers.
From a winding bike course, to road sign reviews, kids got a few safety pointers from Tyler's finest. Officers were also on hand to check tire pressure and brakes, and make sure each child has a helmet to keep them safe.
It's all apart of the Tyler PD's Bicycle Safety Rodeo.
"You get in the car, you put your seat belt on, that's a habit for a child and adult or a parent. When they get on the bicycle at home, whether it's even to ride in the driveway, we want them to know to get the helmet on because it's very important," explained Sgt. Eddie Sheffield. "We don't want to see any head injuries or traumatic events to any of our kids here in East Texas."
TPD will hold another Bike Rodeo for kids and parents Saturday, May 28 from 10am to noon in the Walmart parking lot on South Broadway in Tyler.
