Memorial Day events in East Texas

Chandler: The Chandler Cemetery Association will hold a service to honor fallen soldiers at 9 a.m. Monday at the cemetery on Old Tyler Road. Tom Robucks, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate, and Chandler Cub Scouts will present the American flag. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held at the Chandler Community Center, where items of military history will be exhibited by the Chandler Historical Society.

Whitehouse: Daniel B. Walker War Memorial rededication ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday in front of the Oak Brook Health Care Center, 107 Stacy Drive. Walker, a Whitehouse resident, lost his life in Operation Desert Storm. The memorial was erected in the 1990s after his death. However, it was vandalized and left in disrepair for years. Two years ago, Whitehouse Cub Scouts, ages 7 to 11, decided to raise money to restore the monument, and this event will serve as a rededication. U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, will be the keynote speaker.

Tyler: Tyler Memorial Funeral Home Cemetery and Mausoleum, 12053 Texas Highway 64 West, will hold a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday. Festivities will include a fallen warrior ceremony procession, a veterans honor table, the "Armed Forces Medley," the Adorning of the Wreath, and a rifle salute. Distinguished speakers are Captain Jim Darwin and FBI Special Agent David Mohr.

Tyler: The memorial service at Rose Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery is set for 1 p.m. Monday. The cemetery is near Gresham at 2003 Blue Mountain Blvd. Speakers at the event will include Mayor Barbara Bass, retired Lt. Col. John Davis, and Matt Schaefer, a lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserve. Food and drinks also will be available. Patriotic music will be performed by Steve and Camilla Charles
