Children Are A Gift: Jasmine

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -- Jasmine is a confident 12-year-old young lady. She enjoys meeting people and talking.

"I like going shopping for new things. I like roller skating. I like playing sports and volleyball and running," she says.

She also enjoys music, art and travel. One of the things she doesn't like at this point... "Boys, disgusting!"

This 7th-grader thinks she might want to be a writer someday. "When I feel sad I put my feelings into a story."

Those feelings of sadness come from spending three years in foster care. "I had to change a lot of schools from 9 [years old] all the way up to now."

Jasmine has had to make a lot of adjustments to overcome an unstable and chaotic lifestyle.

"While she's outgoing and very friendly and social, she also has a very low frustration level, [but] she's made so much progress during the time she's been in care," explains Cindy Hodges, Child Protective Services caseworker.

"When it comes to holidays it's really emotional cause you get upset because you're not with your family," adds Jasmine.

Jasmine needs a patient forever family willing to offer positive reinforcement, structure and realistic expectations.

"I want to be with a family that loves and cares for me as I am instead of just being in a home to be around."

And Jasmine says she's ready to be adopted. "I think it's good because I get to be in a home that I feel comfortable with. It's going to be alright."
