RUSK COUNTY (KYTX) - A fatal house fire on County Road 3175 in Mt. Enterprise claimed the lives of three people Tuesday morning. A mother and her two children. Rusk County Officials have identified the deceased as April Nicole Yarbrough, 25, Zi'quaven Ke'onta Yarbrough, 7, and Tyrell Deshawn Dixon, 3. CBS 19's Amanda Roberson has more on the fire and how family members are responding to the devastation.
"When there's kids involved it takes you to a different level and when it's unexpected death, that hurts really, really bad," explained 3-year-old Tyrell Dixon's great grandmother Mary Jordan. She and her family are still processing what happened in the early morning fire. "This isn't the only tragedy that's ever happened, but it's the most devastating."
April Yarbrough's brother lives next door and first noticed smoke around 6 am. He told Sgt. Vicki Penny with the Rusk County Sheriff's Office he tried knocking on the doors and windows to check on his sister, but there was no response.
"At that point he went and busted the door down and at that point the house was in flames," Sgt. Penny added.
Fire crews from four different towns responded to the call and by the time they got here, the house was fully engulfed with flames. They said hot, dry conditions were fuel to the fire.
"It was a very intense fire," said Sgt. Penny. "It was a wooden structure and so of course, they burn a little hotter than the others."
April's mother also lived in the home, but had left for work a few hours before the fire began.
"April and her mother were very close and her sister," Jordan said. "All of them were really close."
For the family members left behind, all they can do now is pray to God and cling to their faith.
"He's the one that can pull us through it because at night you got to call on somebody. You can't call on a friend, but you can call on Him," Jordan explained. "And I do have faith in Him."
The Rusk County Sheriff's Office is still investigating what caused the fire, but said they do not expect any foul play. A Rusk County judge has ordered autopsy reports on the three victims.
