(KYTX) - It looks like the controversy on Double D Ranch is just beginning. Now, a Tyler mother is behind an email campaign to keep the Tyler bar and grill from opening its doors at its current location.
Jennifer Alden is going to keep her fingers on her computer keyboard, if it means slowing down construction at the Double D Ranch Bar and Grill.
Her main concern? Having a business she considers sexually suggestive right across the street from a high school.
"High school kids have enough distraction and enough to deal with, without them looking out the window and seeing Double D written in front of them everyday," said Jennifer Alden.
The mother of three has started an email campaign asking other like minded Tylerites to voice their concerns.
She's emailed the mayor, members of the city council, and even a state representative to keep the business from opening.
"They (Double D's) did this very much under the radar by just applying for a remodeling permit," said Alden.
The City of Tyler said its hands are tied in this situation. Double D's is not considered a sexually explicit business. Since it's owned by the same company as El Chico, the business that previously occupied the building, it did not need the city's approval.
"I probably got about a 100 emails so far," said State Rep. Leo Berman.
Mrs. Alden turned to State Representative Leo Berman for advice. But, he says he can't really do anything either.
"When you got someone who is going to rent a property and put in a business, it's hard to tell them we're not going to allow you to do this," said Rep. Berman.
A new business means more jobs and more sales tax revenue for the City of Tyler.
Ms. Alden understands that. She just doesn't want this one in her backyard.
"We cannot spend the money, we can boycott it, and we'll see what happens," added Alden.
CBS 19 has tried to reach the company that owns Double D's for more than a week now. So far, our calls have not been returned.
