UPDATE:  It looks like two cities are experiencing phone trouble tonight. Phone lines are still down in the city of Troup. If you have an emergency dial 911 from your cell phone or call 903-842-3211.

Century Link told the Tyler Morning Telegraph a cut line left 700 customers without phone service. Customers are reportedly having problems in Bullard too. Century Link hopes to restore service tonight.

Rodger Johnson, a city council member in Bullard, said the city has received reports that phone outages may be affecting people as far away as Jacksonville.

Johnson said phones are out all over the city, and emergency calls must be placed from cell phones. He also said the emergency back-up system apparently failed to take over after the line was cut.

Calls to Bullard's police and fire departments by the Tyler Morning Telegraph were answered by a busy signal.

POSTED EARLIER:
A large CenturyLink cable was cut earlier today in Troup, leaving residents unable to make 911 calls.

A CenturyLink customer service representative said more than 700 people are without service as a result of the cut line.

The representative said service is expected to be restored tonight, though an expected time was not available.

Troup Mayor John Whitsell said he does not know when the problem will be resolved, but residents can call 903-842-3211 for emergencies or dial 911 from a cell phone. He said any "842" number should still work.

Whitsell said he believes other East Texas cities are experiencing similar issues.
