(CNN) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture is blaming ground turkey for a recent salmonella outbreak. About 77 illnesses in 26 states are now connected to people eating ground turkey.

The most common symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. The USDA is still trying to track down the source of the sickening meat.

Consumers are encouraged to cook ground turkey to an internal temperature of 165 degrees to ensure its safety.
