MARSHALL (KYTX) - A Marshall Junior High student says administrators went too far when dealing with a hairy situation at school by using a permanent marker to correct his dress-code violation, his hair.
"She said we're not supposed to have 2 parts, only one," says Sheldon Williams.
The Marshall Junior High student, says the school took corrective action over his hair.
"As a parent, wouldn't like it, I think it crossed the line. Shouldn't have done that," says Anne Jones.
"I'd be pretty upset if this happened to one of my kids," says Daniel Ticareno.
East Texas parents are reacting to the story.
"I was kind of mad. I don't want no sharpie marker in my hair," says Williams.
He says administrators used a permanent marker to color in one of the lines on each side of his head Monday.
His mother took these pictures when he came home from school, you can see the bottom line filled in.
"If a parent gives you permission then, ok, do that. But to just take the initiative and say, 'I'm just going to color in his hair with permanent marker?' Very disrespectful," says Philleniea Williams.
Williams mother says they've never had a problem with him meeting dress code, even looking at the student code of conduct under "dress and grooming" the list of prohibited styles only says "designs shaved into hair."
"If he did something bad, give me a call, let me know what's going on. Don't take it upon yourself and draw on my kids head," says Tiscareno.
"You just don't do that, it's just not right," says Jones.
It's a small mark that's smudged the line on how parents feel about the school's action.
"I'd be furious," says Jones.
The principal says this is the first time she's dealt with an issue like this on campus, and was told this was done in the past.
School leaders say it won't happen again.
