Law enforcement increases Halloween patrol, registered sex offenders

Posted: Updated:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- East Texas law enforcement officers are increasing their patrol this Halloween, making sure registered child sex offenders are following their probation.

"Nobody wants to harass or intimidate one of the sex offenders because he's on probation or is a registered sex offender," Cherokee County Sheriff James. "As long as he's doing what he's supposed to do. This is just a way to let them know they're going to have to walk the line."

Cherokee County makes random checks on more than 120 registered sex offenders throughout the year and on a night like Halloween, they're even more cautious. Officials must make sure the offenders aren't passing out candy or in contact with trick-or-treaters in any way.

"To be honest it's not one I think I've actually thought of right off the bat but it definitely is a good piece of mind knowing they're taking those precautions," Sara Woodside, mother of trick-or-treaters said.
