Update: Surveillance video of SUV crashing into auto parts store

KILGORE (KYTX) - Surveillance video is released Sunday of an SUV crashing through a Kilgore auto parts store.

The accident happened Saturday around 2 o'clock today at ABC Autoparts, off of Highway 259 North. The driver, a store employee and a customer were injured in the accident.

The surveillance video shows an SUV crashing through the store, shattering the huge glass window, injuring a store employee and pinning a customer under the car.

ABC Autoparts manager Bubba Keel describes the scene: "Mass chaos. There were ambulances and fire trucks, and police everywhere."

Keel recalls the frantic call he got from one of his employees Saturday afternoon.

"He was in a panic so I could tell it was bad."

Keel says the driver lost control of the car because he had a seizure.

"He was still seizing when he was in the store here."

After the chaos calmed, it was time for the clean up - and this was no small mess.

"Long hours," keel says. "Actually, me and my helpers, we didn't leave until 4:15 this morning."

In a down economy Keel says he can't afford to lose a day of business.

"It's a traumatic thing that happened," he says, "but we need to be open for our customers."

Customer Eric Golden was at the store Saturday, before the accident happened.

He says, "I was here 45 minutes before it happened and I came back today and there's plywood where there was a window. That's pretty wild."

He says he's shocked that the store was up and running on time the very next morning.

"I'm really surprised that they got that wall up so quick."

When the SUV came barreling into the building it took a lot of shelving with it. Keel says replacing it could cost him thousands of dollars.

Keel says they may be open for business, but things aren't quite back to normal yet.

"We got a long ways to go."

The customer who was hit in the accident is 52-year-old Michael Shoopman of Kilgore.

He is still at Good Shepherd Medical Center. He has been upgraded from the ICU, and is now in stable condition.

The driver and a store employee were released from the hospital Saturday.
