LONGVIEW (KYTX) -- Sunday was already a difficult day for Longview police.  It was the year anniversary of the murder of officer Ellyn Goodan.   Then Sunday morning officer Leigh Ann Snyder is hurt after a car slams into her patrol unit head on.  Officers tell us alcohol is believed to be involved.

At the scene Sunday morning, officer Leigh Ann Snyder's patrol car lay on it's side.   The top ripped off from the jaws of life used to rescue her and civilian Courtney Walker who was riding along.  "All those officers, the fire department that responded, they were there in moments. Everyone did their job with due diligence and we'll all thankful that the outcome was positive that everyone did survive this accident," says Sergeant David Scott.

It happened just before 8 Sunday morning at West Loop 281 near Birdsong. Investigators tell us the sedan hit a curb, over corrected and slammed into Snyder's patrol car head on.   Her car flipped once. "It did have some fire from the base of the car from what I've been told. Both of them were safely extracted from the vehicle.  Snyder sustained two broken legs and possibly a broken pelvis," says Sergeant Scott.

Sunday morning's accident is particularly difficult on Longview officers.  "Well a year ago we lost officer Ellyn Goodan from our department and then to have this on the year anniversary.  To have another officer involved in an accident. We're just thankful that she is going to pull through this. Its just a difficult day for us," says Sergeant Scott.

Officer Snyder underwent surgery this afternoon.   She remains in stable condition as well as her passenger Courtney Walker.   The name of the driver that hit them has not been released.   He is also in stable condition.  Investigators tell us evidence indicates alcohol is possibly involved.   The driver now faces two counts of intoxication assault.
