Kilgore ISD teacher placed on administrative leave for slapping a child

KILGORE (KYTX) -- A Kilgore ISD teacher has been removed from campus for slapping a child. The incident involved a teacher at Kilgore Heights Elementary School and a pre-K student who was reportedly uncooperative while on a field trip to the library.

The district is not releasing the names of the teacher or student. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave, Superintendent Jody Clements told CBS 19 Thursday morning.

"It was reported to us that an incident happened on a field trip last week. We investigated the matter, the teacher was removed from the classroom and will not be back on campus the remainder of the year. That teacher has been placed on administrative leave and has her right to due process," Clements said.

The district declined further comments on the matter. Kilgore Police Captain Roman Roberson told CBS 19 the mother of a 4-year-old filed a report that a teacher hit the child at school. The teacher has not been charged at this time.
