Before you know it, fall will be here and it will be time to go back to school.  For parents that means stocking up on notebooks, number two pencils, and back to school clothes, all of which usually take a big chunk out of a family's budget.  So, just how much do parents will pay to send their kids off to school this year?More >>

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- "You're probably so good you don't need our help. It's alright. I can probably learn a little bit more. Good."

Today is a special day for 13-year-old Romelo. He's getting the opportunity to play with the Tyler Junior College men's basketball team.

"It's going to be a good game cause I take my basketball very seriously," he said.

Without hesitation, he grabs a ball and joins his new friends on the court.

"He's a real good kid," basketball player Jaron Johnson said. "You can tell by the few minutes that we spent with him. He's real expressive, likes fun. Likes to meet new people really. He's real friendly."

Romelo has been in foster care a long time, which can be discouraging for any child.

"Sometimes I can be very sad and somebody will come up to me and ask me what is wrong," Romelo said. "Hey I'm just going through a rough time right now. So I'm alright now so then I go on and be happy."

And today these players are making him feel special.

"On behalf of the TJC basketball team," Johnson said. "It's a token from us. We all got one too so you're a part of the team. We're here really just to give a helping hand and keep him motivated and keep him doing what he likes to do, play basketball."

A family for Romelo will need to be understanding and patient.

"When I get adopted I will have that home forever," he said.

This teenager needs guidance, structure and stability as he works on improving his behavior. But this day was about inspiration and encouragement for a young man waiting to see what his future holds.
