William Alfred Cullefer, 41, of Mabank was sentenced to 20 years in the penitentiary Monday after pleading guilty to multiple forgeries committed in Seven Points and Mabank.

The forgeries were discovered in late February of last year when one of the victims from the forgeries discovered returned checks from her bank that she did not authorize.

The bank immediately contacted the Seven Points Police Department and an investigation was launched.

Cullefer became a suspect after it was discovered that one of the checks was actually made out to Cullefer. Unauthorized checks that were cashed at other Seven Points businesses were also discovered. A review of security footage and photo lineups further confirmed that Cullefer was the actor.

In late March, another victim from Eustace discovered returned checks that he did not authorize.

The victim believed the checks were taken in a burglary of his vehicle a few weeks earlier. During the investigation, it was learned that these checks were passed at two Mabank businesses.

A photo lineup and surveillance video confirmed that Cullefer was the actor in these forgeries.

Cullefer was arrested and subsequently indicted for multiple counts of forgery by the Henderson County Grand Jury.

District Attorney Scott McKee indicated that he was very pleased with the outcome of the case.
