Update: Suspect arrested for kidnapping

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) --  Police say they've arrested the man they believe tried to kidnap a woman in the Brookshire's Fresh parking lot this afternoon. Fresh is located on Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.

The suspect's wife, April Easley, is still shaken up and did not want to show her face on camera, but she said after two years of marriage, suspect William Easley never showed any signs of violence.

"He's not abusive," she said. "He's never raised his voice, he's never raised his hand. He'd never hurt anybody. I was shocked. I'm still in shock."

Police said a 39-year-old woman told them a man tried to force her into her vehicle at gunpoint. She screamed for help, alerting nearby customers in the parking lot. That's when police said the suspect drove off in a blue Pontiac.

Customers said when something like this happens, it makes you want to be much more aware of your surroundings.

Jesse Eyer and his wife Jenny are new to Tyler from Dallas. They said they didn't expect anything like this to happen here.

"I was really surprised," Eyer said. "This is a nice grocery store and this is a nice area so I wouldn't expect something like that to occur here, so I'll definitely think twice maybe about letting my wife go to the grocery store by herself."

April said her husband had a drug problem, but she never knew his behavior would escalate to this level.

"Not to try to go hurt some innocent lady in a parking lot...," she said.

After seeing his true colors, April said she's had a change of heart about the man she married.

"The trust is gone," she said. "I don't know if you could ever get that back."

Police said they saw William's blue Pontiac at his home in Flint. They arrested him there around 8:30 p.m.

William will be transported to the Smith County Jail where he will be booked on charges for kidnapping.
