Wind rips roof off of Mount Enterprise building

MOUNT ENTERPRISE - (KYTX) - "It pulled the metal roof off of this building and put it into the street over to the new Whataburger across the highway."

Rusk County Commissioner Freddy Swann and wife own Milford's Antique's and Jaime's Rancho. He says he got a call at work about some wind damage in that area.

"I drove right back down here and it was my roof torn off." said Swann.

He found that water had come through the ceiling.

"We got in here and there's some water damage that's coming in here and getting on these tables. These antiques are on these table cloths and I told my wife, 'we've got to get these cloths off cause it'll damage this wood."

Swann says Milford's Antiques was inherited to them through his wife's mother, but it hasn't been open for business in five years because neither have the time for it.

This teacup looks like it's filled with tea, but Commissioner Swann and his wife tell me many of their antiques are actually filled with water that came in from the ceiling. They say some of their antiques are hundreds of years old, and with this storm, it just gives them more of an incentive to preserve them and get them out of this building.

"We have to make an effort to preserve them, especially that table my wife's working on there now. We didn't know what kind of table was under the cloth."

Swann is keeping a positive attitude about the storms.

"It could have been worse. I'm looking on the bright side. It could have been a lot worse." said Swann.

And he's not complaining about East Texas getting a good dose of rain either.

"We'll just pack this stuff up, and we need the rain, so I'm not going to rush the rain off. It's done what it can do... its damage. When it stops raining, we'll fix the roof and get this stuff out."

Swann also says he's thankful for the help he's been getting from neighbors and friends. They've been pitching in with packing and boxing up the antiques.
