(TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Country singer Miranda Lambert has announced that she no longer will hold her Cause for the Paws concert in East Texas.
The Grammy-winning Lindale native alerted her fans that she would be seeking a new location for the annual concert. In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Ms. Lambert's mother, Beverly Lambert, said the event had simply become too big to continue holding it in East Texas. Last year's concert was in downtown Tyler.
"After much consideration and coordination effort, we have come to the realization that we will no longer be able to host Miranda's annual Cause for the Paws concert in East Texas. Due to the enormous turnout with Miranda's growing popularity, we regrettably do not have a venue in East Texas that is suitable for the attendance numbers. We are currently in talks regarding the relocation of the event, which will most likely take place in the latter part of 2012," Mrs. Lambert said.
Long an advocate for and supporter of animal outreaches, Ms. Lambert began the annual concert event as a way to help raise funds for the Humane Society of East Texas, an organization the Lamberts pledged to remain supportive of.
"Rest assured we will continue to lend support to the Humane Society of East Texas as well as our other animal related outreaches. MuttNation Foundation extends a much-deserved thank you to all of the concert attendees, sponsors and volunteers that helped us reach the unexpected goal of outgrowing our venues, as well as raising over a half a million dollars over the past four years. We promise to keep you informed of further information."
Gayle Helms, executive director of the Humane Society of East Texas, said they are very grateful for the work Ms. Lambert has done for the organization.
"She has raised a great deal of money for us since day one and we've had a sell out all four years," she said.
Ms. Helms said they will be moving forward with their own entertainment-centric fundraiser this year.
"What I am proposing is to combine our Pets in the Park event, which is usually in October, with entertainment that night in the amphitheater, then maybe have a garden party Sunday afternoon somewhere like we used to have with Miranda."
