LONGVIEW (KYTX) -- A Longview man faces charges after police say he tried to solicit sex online from someone he thought was a 14 years old. However, the man was actually sending messages to police.

Brea Collins lives a block away from where police say 27-year-old Blake Robey tried meet a minor for sex. Police say he set the meeting up online.

"It's just a different world from when I was growing up," she said.

Collins said it scares here because she doesn't know the best way to keep track of what her two daughters do online.

"There are mothers that are dumb to the Internet like myself," she said.

Longview police say officers posing as minors were chatting with Robey online and through texts for several months.

Police say on Feb. 7, he tried to set up a meeting on the 1500 hundred block of North Eastman Road. When he showed up, police took him into custody.

Kristie Brian with Longview PD said these days, home computers aren't the only portal for a predator to reach your child.

"Parents need to be aware of where their kids are going when they are online," Brian said. "Kids not only use home computers they may use laptops they can use their cell phones."

Brian said on the home computer and laptop, get a family filter to block adult websites and monitor the Internet browser history.

And as for the child's cell phone, along with reading texts, there are several types of software that allow you to monitor your child's texts and calls.

"Definitely now I'm going to be watching it, reading texts learning to get on her computer and see what she's doing," Collins said.
