Families get free help with financial aid forms

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - The economy and cuts in the state budget is making it harder for families to afford college, but a group of East Texas financial aid experts is helping out.

Sunday, students and their families visited with financial aid experts at TK Gorman for College Goal Sunday.

Volunteers helped students fill out their FAFSA financial aid forms, and took them through the steps of applying for scholarships and grants.

Crystal and David Satterwhite's daughter Jennifer is a senior in high school, and they say picking a college has a lot to do with cost.

"Books, tuition, staying on campus, and all the fees, it all adds up and it can get quite costly and we want her to have a college education," the Satterwhites say.

Devon Wiggins met with families to educate them about their financial aid options.

She says, "We're seeing lots and lots of students because of the economy that are turning to financial aid, and they need that additional financial help with paying their college expenses."

Eligibility is determined by many different factors from your FAFSA form, including information like income, and number of people in a household.
