Longview library gets iMAC computer lab

Posted: Updated:

iMAC computers and the latest software are now at the Longview library.  The new computer lab gives kids and adults access to the latest technology.

These macs are what students, artists and graphic design professionals dream of. All 23 of them, at the Longview library, were donated by the Junior League of Longview.

"The kids can now come here. The city is going to keep the computers updated and well maintained so this project will go on for years and years," says Taylor Clark with the Junior League.

Taylor is also a teacher. She says her students are excited to get the chance to tryout the new computer lab. "When I told them that it was an iMAC learning lab they were like can we take a field trip? cause they were so excited about the video software and the photoshop and all those opportunities that they don't normally have on our school computers," says Clark.

The library approached the Junior League back in September about the idea. They knew a lab like this would benefit everyone.  "Children that are exposed and adults who are exposed to these types of computers are able to have better analytical thinking skills. They're able to score higher on their writing assignments. They're also able to have great problem solving abilities," says Kristi Hunt with the Junior League.

Gary Smith teaches computer classes at the library.  He helps students and adults get prepared for the job market.  "Any career you go into now you are going to need some type of computer skills and you're going to be able to manipulate some of the software packages," says Smith.

Making this new iMAC computer a lab a valuable resource for years to come.   The new computer lab cost$50,000.

The library will provide training classes for new MAC users.
