Man trying to preach gets robbed

Houston (CNN) - A disabled Houston man learns a valuable life lesson.

He hired an escort so he could preach to her and help her change her ways, but he ended up a crime victim. Erik Garcia suffers from multiple sclerosis and has been confined to a wheelchair since he was 13.

In late January he ventured on to the Houston Back Pages website with the idea of calling up an escort service to try, as he describes it, to evangelize to them.

"I would preach to that person and try to get them to change their ways, and low and behold, I got mugged. She said I had a gun, and took out the money," says Garcia.

Investigators say the woman who answered on the other end of the escort service was Jamie Vaughn, someone who's been arrested more than 10 times in the last decade for drugs and prostitution charges.

This time, she picked up Garcia at the home he shared with his parents and allegedly robbed him -- taking him to several convenience stores to withdraw hundreds of dollars. Garcia says this won't stop him from trying to help people but he's going to try a different approach.
