(CNN) - Today is sentencing day in Detroit for the so-called "underwear bomber" -- Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab.

He's facing a mandatory life sentence. He pleaded guilty to trying to blow up a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas Day 2009 with a bomb hidden in his underwear.
