Walking speed may aid in predicting stroke

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) How quickly you walk and how tightly you grasp may help doctors predict if you will develop dementia or stroke.

Researchers in Boston tested the walking speed and hand strength of more than 2,400 men and followed up with their test group 11 years later.

They found people who walked slower in middle-age were one-and-a-half times more likely to develop dementia.

People with a strong grip were 42-percent less likely to have a stroke.
