WE Consumer Corner: Gas prices up; A new Nook coming soon

(CBS/CNN) - More pressure for drivers at the pump.  Many consumers are worried that prices could spike above 4-dollars a gallon in many parts of the country.

Crude is trading at close to $105 dollars a barrel.  Just late last year in October, it was at $75 dollars a barrel on worries overseas.

A new poll by bankrate.com finds nearly half of all Americans are carrying more credit card debt than they have in emergency savings.

The survey also found nearly a third of Americans say they feel less secure about their finances than they did a year ago.

The Texas cattle population is the lowest it has been in several decades, but ag leaders say there is still room for optimism.

Texas herds have dropped by about 11% in the last year.  That's more than one-million head just in Texas.

The Texas Cattle Feeders Association says there is opportunity for ranchers to grow by getting cattle from different areas.  As the demand for beef increases, so does the price for you at the grocery store, but the cattle association says we should be over the biggest price jump.

And Barnes and Noble is expected to launch a new version of its "Nook" to compete with the Kindle Fire.

Reports say the new nook tablet will have only 8GB.  The same amount of memory as the Kindle Fire.

It's still unclear what they'll be selling for.  Walmart is expected to start selling the latest version of the Nook on Wednesday.
