EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- An East Texas non-profit gets a major donation to help with its efforts to prevent domestic abuse.
$10,000 have been awarded to Michael's House of Hope in Smith County. The program teaches men how to change their behavior so they can stop the cycle of abuse in their families.
The Verizon Foundation made a check presentation to the non-profit this afternoon at the New Life Worship Center in Tyler. The donation will be used to develop the program and hire more staff members.
Unlike traditional domestic abuse programs, Michael's House of Hope focuses on the people who are often the abusers.
Michael's House of Hope is part of the Outreach Ministry at New Life Worship Center. It's currently in its development stages and is currently reaching out to the community.
They are also looking for volunteers to help with the ministry.
