A trial over a 2 dollar pumpkin could cost taxpayers big money.
Annette Atencio can't believe her 23-year-old sister, Lauren Medina, will actually have to go to trial over a 2 dollar pumpkin.
Atencio says the charges stem from last October, when her sister went to McCall's Pumpkin Patch in Moriarty, New Mexico.
Atencio says her sister spent 75 dollars that day on food and hay rides before picking up a small pumpkin as she left.
"They said 'Oh my God! I'm so sorry. can we pay for them?' Nope. Handcuffed immediately. End of story. No if's, and's, or but's," said Atencio
Medina thought the charges would be dropped, but that didn't happen.
A court employee says, just like every other case, the pumpkin theft must to go through the court process.
