Bullard plans for new wastewater treatment plant

Posted: Updated:

BULLARD (KYTX) -- The City of Bullard needs the wastewater treatment plant to handle additional growth in the area, treating business and household waste water before it goes back into the creek. However, building it has been an uphill battle.

Mayor Pam Frederick said that's because the Texas Commission on Environmental Equality (TCEQ) was concerned about what's going into the water.

"It's been about a six and a half, almost seven year process," Frederick said. "But we have increased our capacity and enhanced that plan, and so we have handled those concerns and met every requirement that TCEQ has asked us to meet."

After increasing the size of the plant and replacing eroded pipes, TCEQ has now given Bullard the go ahead on the project.

We spoke with the owner of the property where the wastewater treatment plant will be. He said he's never been worried about what goes into the water here and this time is no different. In fact, he said he encourages the city to build the plant right behind his house.

The wastewater plant will be up and running by next spring.
