FRESH Ideas: Asian Tuna Burgers

Posted: Updated:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- It's that time of the year; time for grilling up your favorite burger.

Today in our FRESH Ideas segment, Christine Gardner shows us an alternative to the American hamburger tradition.

INGREDIENTS

1 pound tuna steaks, cubed

½ cup soy sauce

¼ cup teriyaki sauce

2 teaspoons fresh ginger, peeled and grated

2 teaspoons sesame oil

1 teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning

2 garlic cloves, chopped

4 hamburger buns

DIRECTIONS

Place the tuna in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse a few times until tuna is the texture of ground beef. Place the tuna in a mixing bowl. Add the soy sauce, teriyaki, ginger, sesame oil, steak seasoning and garlic. Using your hands combine completely and form the tuna into 4 large patties. Spray the grill or a grill pan liberally with non-stick cooking spray. Heat to high and place burgers on the grill. Cook for two minutes per side for medium rare and longer for well done. Possible condiments include mustard flavored with wasabi paste, mayonnaise flavored with Asian Sriracha sauce, grilled shitake mushrooms and shredded Napa cabbage.
