What's Trending: Tanning mom pleads not guilty; Target axes the Kindle

Posted: Updated:

(CBS/CNN) - A mom is in trouble for allegedly letting her six year-old daughter go to a tanning salon. Patricia Krinchull from new jersey pleaded not guilty to a child endangerment charge.

State laws prohibit anyone under 14 from using tanning beds.  The child's teacher reported the little girl's suspicious sunburn to police.  Krinchull, who admits she loves to tan, says her daughter got tan from playing outside.

Ever wonder where the best place to live for ladies is? A new study shows it's Washington, DC. The research was done as part of a project called the Measure of America.  The study compared differences in the women's education, earnings, marital status and life expectancy in 25 of the most populated metropolitan areas.  San Francisco, Boston, Minneapolis-Saint Paul and New York City round out the top 5.

Soon, you won't be able to buy an Amazon Kindle at Target.  The retailer announced Wednesday it plans to phase out the products this spring.  Target is not saying why the kindle is disappearing from its shelves.  The Kindle was an apparent hit for Target.  Last year, the company said the newly launched Kindle Fire was Target's best-selling tablet on Black Friday. Target will still sell other e-readers, including the Barnes and Noble Nook.

Amazon is getting in the TV business.  The company is planning to start making its own television shows.  You will be able to watch the shows on its streaming service, Amazon Instant Video.  Google, Hulu and Netflix are making similar plans to produce original content.
