(CBS) - Doctors may be one step closer to a vaccine that will protect against new strains of bacterial meningitis.

The vaccine would help protect against 90 percent of the strains that cause meningitis in the U.S. Researchers administered the vaccine as part of a trial in Australia, Poland and Spain to test its safety and effectiveness.
